Video: Vasaloppet – Worlds Greatest Skirace Enhanced by Activio

February 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

More than 45.000 participants gather in Sälen, Sweden, the first Sunday of March every year. The reason is the world’s largest cross country ski competition – Vasaloppet.  The race is the peak of a week full of cross country ski events for beginners, children, teams and world class athletes. But the main event during the week is Vasaloppet, the world’s longest – 90 km – and most demanding cross country ski race.

During the race the benefits of heart rate presentation to viewers and spectators are obvious. It’s very hard to really understand the physical demands for the athletes without objective feedback. This insight lead to development of a live heart rate monitoring system back in 2006 by Activio together with SVT, Swedens Public Broadcasting company, and Vasaloppet. Ever since the first demonstration of heart rate monitoring in 2006 it has been a huge success for the production. Also, eurosport has carried the heart rate feedback live to its audience.

The core idea is to have the top skiers heart rate to be shown live on TV during the race. This made possible by Activio in 2006. For the very first time ever during Vasaloppet, the audience watching the broadcast could see skiers heart rate live on TV.

Activio supports Vasaloppet as an event to promote activity. Tomorrow, Activio’s CEO, Mr. Daniel Magnergard, will participate for the 7th time. Check out his progress on-line.

NIKE Convent 2008 – Stockholm

January 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

During the past weekend Stockholm were in focus for people in the fitnessbussiness. Coaches, trainers and others attended the NIKE Convention 2008 at the University of Stockholm campus only a few minutes outside the capital city. More than a thousand participants could gain knowledge, exercise and laughs together around the subject they love – fitness and wellness exercises. Activio was part of the game for the third year in a row. This time ninety participants could jump on a bike for a spinning experience with a Activio chestbelt strapped on to monitor the heart rate during the session. On big screens at the front of the stage, everyone could track their very own heart rate in real-time. One meter for each participant. Twelve such sessions were arranged during the weekend. Most of them packed to the last saddle.

On the Sunday morning Monika Björn from In-Cycle and Matthew Griffiths, EIS, took stage to kick of the day with a energetic and impressive group training spinning session. We want to provide you with a glimpse from their stretching after the session below. They did a great job as well as the participants. Enjoy.

Afterwords, Matt gave us a short interview about his take on what the Activio system has done for heart rate based group training. This time with the hood down as a champion finishing his match as a winner. He sure was worth it. Matt is a very pleasant person to meet with and we are very happy to have his kind words about the system. As a coach and training facilitator Matt has extensive experience and knowledge. We hope to get back with more moments with Matt about the nuts and bolts of heart rate based exercise.

We are happy if you want to send the clips forward or provide them on your own blog. It is easy, click on the word “embed” choose the right format for the link and put it in your own blog.
